What is a Fully Qualified Domain Name? Print

A Fully Qualified Domain Name is also called the 'Domain Name' or 'Common Name'.

During the create of a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) you are asked for the 'Domain Name' or 'Common Name'.

As an example, if you wish your secure area to be https://www.globessl.com/domain-validation-ssl-certificate/ then the 'Domain Name' or 'Common Name' is www.globessl.com

As you can see, the 'Domain Name' or 'Common Name' does not include the 'https://' or the '/domain-validation-ssl-certificate/'.

So, when a Fully Qualified Domain Name is requested it means the entire domain name, as in the example, www.globessl.com
